Study in Germany

Germany, the second-largest country in Europe, is undoubtedly one of the most popular study destinations and the best country for Indian students. The QS World Education Report of 2021 included 13 German universities among the Top 250 in the world. Further, thirty universities entered the world’s Top 500. The highest-ranked among them include the Technical University of Munich, Ludwig-Maximillian University and the Humboldt University of Berlin.

Since Germany is one of the signatories to the Bologna Process, it allows students to have interoperability across universities in Europe. They can switch universities in the middle of their courses. The tuition fee in German universities is either free of cost or covers just the administration charges. The average tuition fee for the Technical University of Munich is around 144 EUR per year. Moreover, there are numerous scholarships in Germany available for students. For a year in Germany, the cost of living is aapproximately10,300 EUR per year.

Scholarships in Germany
Generally, international students are given up to 50% scholarships by universities. However, students with good academic records can earn more than 50%. Those students who score well in the initial semesters are provided scholarships, subject to continued performance during the course. The universities also offer sports-related scholarships for showing exceptional skills in any sports activities.

Job Opportunities
The high quality of education ensures that students have distinguished employability skills after their degrees. There are plenty of opportunities for students to stay back and work in the country. The universities have tie-ups with leading industries of the world. The Humboldt University of Berlin, for instance, has arrangements for internships with top MNCs, allowing them the exposure to learn from the best.

Even during their study programs, students are allowed to work part-time and add up to their savings. An international student can work a maximum of 20 hours a week. The annual limit amounts to 120 full days or 240 half days.

Eligibility Criteria
Students must submit previous years’ academic records, passing certificates, letters of recommendation, identity proofs, passports, photos, etc., to the selected university. International students also need to prove their language proficiency through exams like IELTS, PTE, TOEFL, etc.

International students need to have a study visa to enter the universities. For up to three months, a Schengen Visa will do. But for more than three months, students need to apply for a German Visa from the German Consulate located in New Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai, Mumbai, and Kolkata. The fee is around 75 EUR. The candidates will also have to appear for a personal interview with the visa officer.
